RGCB celebrates International Yoga Day

Yoga sessions, competitions mark the event

Thiruvananthapuram, June 21: Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB) today celebrated the International Day of Yoga at its campus here, with a host of programmes, focusing on the benefits of this age-old Indian discipline in keeping the body and mind fit.

The theme of this year’s Yoga Day celebrations is ‘Yoga for Humanity’.

The Yoga Day programmes commenced with a yoga session attended by the scientific community,employees, researchers and students of RGCB. This was followed by the demonstration of yoga asanas for beginners led by the city-based Institute of Nirvana Yoga.

On the occasion, RGCB scientist Dr S Sreeja welcomed the gathering. Institute of Nirvana Yoga Co-Founder Shri Anish R V spoke about the importance of practising yoga regularly, for maintaining physical and mental health to lead a stress-free life. He along with Institute of Nirvana Yoga instructors Shri Sabir B S and Shri Soby Thomas led the yoga session.

An elocution competition on yoga was held for all the employees and students of RGCB. Besides, a competition for various yoga asanas was also conducted. Shri T R Santhosh Kumar, Dean (Research Administration), RGCB, gave away prizes to the winners of the competitions at the end of the Yoga Day celebrations.
