New Delhi, Sept 09: The Nair Service Society (NSS) is hosting an international conclave in the national capital this Sunday to celebrate the birth anniversary of spiritual guru Chattambi Swamikal (1853-1924), in a bid to ensure countrywide recognition of his spirited fight against the obnoxious caste system as well as his profound intellectual attainments.

Union Minister for Education Shri Dharmendra Pradhan will inaugurate the ‘Global Nair Summit 2022 and Vidyadhirajolsavam’ at Siri Fort Auditorium, where Minister of State for External Affairs Shri V. Muraleedharan will deliver a special address.

A souvenir will be released at the function, which would conclude with a cultural programme profiling the teachings of the Kerala-born Swamikal who employed nonviolent struggles to eliminate casteism among Hindus and other social evils pervading the society.

The September 11 event, in association with Global Nair Sewa Samajam (Global NSS), is being held as part of the 169th anniversary of the Swamikal, also known as Vidyadhiraja — ahead of his death centenary year beginning next May.

“Vidyadhiraja Chattambi Swamikal has not won the attention he deserves in the contemporary world,” said Global NSS Chairman Shri M.K.G. Pillai, who is also president of NSS Delhi. “Our global meet will make a definite effort towards widely spreading the message of the social reformer, who authored several books and worked at the grassroots against social evils.”

ISRO Chairman Dr S. Somanath will deliver the keynote address at the 4 pm programme, where Sampoojya Swami Prajnanamitrananda of Theerathapadar Ashram in Vazhoor (Kottayam) is to give an invocation speech. To be chaired by Shri Pillai, the session will also see Global NSS General Secretary Shri C. Udayabhanu speak on ‘Activities of GNSS & Future Roadmap’.

Felicitation addresses will be delivered by former bureaucrat Dr C.V. Ananda Bose IAS; Qatar-based ABN Corporation Chairman Shri J.K. Menon (who is also Director of NORKA under the Kerala government); Justice (retd) P.N. Raveendran; entrepreneurs Shri N.R. Panicker and Babu Panicker (also Vice-Chairman of Global NSS and NSS Delhi); social activist Shri P.K.D. Nambiar; Global NSS former Chairman Shri Jaishankar Unnithan; and Global NSS Secretary Shri Ramachandran Paleri.

Global NSS Treasurer Shri S.P. Nair (also Vice-President of NSS Delhi) will speak on the highlights of the souvenir being released on the occasion and the ‘Vidyadhiraja’ dance-drama, which is to be staged as part of the celebrations. Global NSS Secretary Shri V.S. Subhas will make a presentation of ‘Vision 2040’.

NSS Delhi General Secretary Shri M.D. Jayaprakash, who is General Convener of the Organising Committee, will welcome the gathering, while NSS Delhi Vice President Shri M.G. Rajasekharan Nair will propose thanks.

‘Vidyadhiraja’, the light-and-sound show on the Swamikal, is being directed and choreographed by classical dancer Balakrishna Marar.
