TRCMPU clocks record Onam-time sale in milk, curd, ghee

• Overall, sales turnover during the festival pegged at Rs 32 crore

Thiruvananthapuram, Sep. 9: Thiruvananthapuram Regional Cooperative Milk Producers Union (TRCMPU) of Milma registered a record Rs 32 crore Onam-time sale this year -- a 37 per cent rise from that of last year’s Rs 24 crore -- as the demand for milk, curd and ghee went soaring, especially during the four busiest days of the harvest festival.

It sold 31,42,931 litres of milk and 2,49,319 kg of curd, also a record.

TRCMPUs ghee and other products registered sale of 363 metric tonnes from Thrikketta to Uthradom (September 4 to 7).

The Onam-eve Uthradam day (September 7) marked a 30.47 per cent rise in the milk sale vis-à-vis last year, while the percentage rise was even a more impressive -- 70.46 in the case of curd sale by TRCMPU compared to the corresponding day in 2021.The sale of milk and the turnover from the entire range of products marked an all-time record, said TRCMPU Administrative Committee Convener Shri N. Bhasurangan and Managing Director Shri D.S. Konda.

Thiruvananthapuram dairy topped the all-Kerala list by selling 5,06,998 litres of milk and 80,435 kg curd. The sales figures in the previous year were 4,29,800 litres of milk and 34,017 kg of curd, respectively. This meant an 18.21 per cent rise in the sale of milk and 136.39 in that of curd.

Anticipating robust sales during the Onam time, TRCMPU had made arrangements to procure more milk, curd and the other products. Its stalls and agencies under the union’s four districts of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha and Pathanamthitta functioned overtime for 18 hours: 5 am to 11 pm. It also carried out several sales-promotion schemes that aimed to benefit the producers, agencies and distributors besides consumers.

Shri Bhasurangan and Shri Konda, while extending gratitude to Milma employees, dairy farmers, agencies, trade unions and distributors for their coordinated efforts, highlighted the “invaluable support” of the government and Dairy Development Minister Smt. J. Chinchurani.
