Make society more accessible to deaf: Expert

• Dr Rangasayee speaks at ‘ICCAP 2022’ at NISH

Thiruvananthapuram, Sept. 16: Bringing in changes in society based on a holistic view is necessary to fully utilize the potential of the people with hearing-impairment, according to Dr Rangasayee, Former Director of the Ali Yavar Jung National Institute of Speech and Hearing Disabilities (Divyangan), Mumbai.

Delivering a special address at the ongoing International Conference on Communication Disorders and Audiological Practices (ICCAP 2022) that began at the National Institute of Speech and Hearing (NISH) here on Thursday, Dr Rangasayee said “It is of utmost importance to take necessary steps to bring in changes in society to fully harness the abilities of people with hearing-impairment.”

Putting forward a comprehensive action plan to increase the participation of the deaf in society, he said "changes in society are required to make it accessible for persons with hearing impairment."

On the second day of the conference, leading experts from across the world shared their experiences and perspectives on topics relating to audiology. As many as 100 professionals are participating in the conclave, which will conclude on Saturday. 

The conclave is jointly organized by the Department of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology (ASLP) and the Department of Neuro Developmental Sciences (NDS) at NISH.

The sessions at the meet focus on evidence-based studies, practices, novel issues and breakthroughs in the domain that concern people having communication disorders across the world.

Experts will lead sessions on“Beyond Language Learning,” and “Revisiting Intervention in Neurogenic Language Disorders in Adults” on the final day of the conclave.
