KSFDC’s Nishiddho receives state award for second best film

Thiruvananthapuram, Sept. 24: Nishiddho (Forbidden), a film produced by the Kerala State Film Development Corporation (KSFDC) on behalf of the Kerala Government, was honoured with the second best film award at the 52nd state films awards ceremony this evening.

The awards were presented by Chief Minister Shri Pinarayi Vijayan at the state film awards presentation ceremony at Nishagandhi.

Tara Ramanujan received the award for the director and N Maya IFS, Managing Director of KSFDC,  received the award  for the producer.

Nishiddho is the first film produced by the KSFDC as part of Kerala Government’s path-breaking initiative to support aspiring women directors.

KSFDC Chairman and eminent film-maker Shri Shaji N Karun was also present on the occasion.

Debut film of Tara Ramanujan, Nishiddho portrays the strengths of women by depicting the lives of migrants in an urban setting in Kerala. It was also featured in prominent film festivals, earning awards and critical appreciation.

The film, also scripted by Tara Ramanujan, showcases a relationship that blooms between a Bengali man and a Tamil woman at their workplace in Kerala. Kani Kusruti plays the character Chaavi and Tanmay Dhanania plays Rudra, an idol-maker from Kolkata.

Nishiddho was adjudged the best feature film at the Ottawa Indian Film Festival awards 2022.

The film had earned for Tara Ramanujan the FFSI K R Mohanan Award for the Best Debut Director from India at the International Competition Section of the 26thInternational Film Festival of Kerala 2022 (IFFK). 

The movie was also screened at the Indian Cinema Competition category of the 13th Bengaluru International Film Festival (BIFFes) and in the 27th Kolkata International Film Festival.
