Message of Tourism Minister Shri PA Mohamed Riyas on World Tourism Day
Trivandrum / September 26, 2022

The theme of this year’s World Tourism Day is ‘Rethinking Tourism’, which gives emphasis on developing and promoting tourism based on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set out by the United Nations (UN). Kerala Tourism reiterates its firm commitment to these ideals, while striving to make ‘God’s Own Country’ more accessible to visitors.

Kerala has already set a globally-acclaimed model by turning tourism into a sustainable activity through the ‘Responsible Tourism’ initiative. Kerala Tourism’s vision is to attract visitors by showcasing our natural assets and cultural heritage before the world, without hurting them. Our new products and initiatives like ‘Keravan Kerala’ have been conceived in this larger perspective.

The redefining of tourism as a more rewarding sector for all stakeholders will pave the way for huge social participation in this vital sector. Besides, it will cultivate a strong sense of collective responsibility.

The idea of ‘Conscious Tourism’ aims at developing tourism by sustaining the Nature and socio-cultural assets. Shifting from the traditional development mode, we are seeking to move ahead by paying utmost attention to preserve our social, environmental and cultural features. This will benefit to the local community. Tourism development in Kerala should become a model for the world. That is our dream.

Tourism projects become successful when they touch the people. Tourism is becoming a strong stimulant for the state’s economy. The theme of this year’s World Tourism Day, ‘Rethinking Tourism,’ becomes relevant when we embrace such a change.
