Efforts are on to make Kerala top in milk productivity: Minister

Thiruvananthapuram, Oct. 26: The government is making all efforts to turn Kerala into the top-ranking state in milk productivity in the country by implementing a set of schemes to increase the domestic milk production and ensure better returns for dairy farmers, Minister for Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development Smt J Chinchurani said today.

Launching a bouquet of new products of Milma at a function here, the Minister said dairy farmers will be the ultimate beneficiaries of the government initiatives. Noting that the state now stands second in milk productivity in the country, she said Milma has played a key role in turning Kerala into a leading milk-producing state.

“The government expects the state to attain self-reliance in milk production. Milma plays a pivotal role in achieving the target”, Smt Chinchurani said.  

Noting that around 40 varieties of Milma products are available in the market, she said 80% of its profit has been utilised for the welfare of dairy farmers.

The new products being launched will help expand the market for Milma’s products, she said launching them at the function presided over by Transport Minister Shri Antony Raju.

The newly launched value-added products include probiotic Greek yoghurt, Mini cone, Fundae and Milk Lolly.

  Welcoming the gathering, Trivandrum Regional Cooperative Milk Producers Union (TRCMPU) Administrative Committee Convener Shri N Bhasurangan said by diversifying and strengthening the markets for Milma’s products, TRCMPU ensures the farmers could earn more revenue and profit.  

TRCMPU Managing Director Shri DS Konda while presenting the report explained about the quality of the products as well as their health benefits for the consumers.

TRCMPU Administrative Committee Members Shri VS Padmakumar and Shri KR Mohanan Pillai were also present. Thiruvananthapuram Dairy Manager Smt Jessy R S proposed a vote of thanks.

The newly launched products will hit the markets at attractive prices. 100 gm of probiotic Greek yoghurt priced at Rs. 50 comes with an attractive offer of buy two get one free,125 ml of Fruit Fundae is priced at Rs. 40, Rs. 20 for 60 ml of vanilla Mini cone and Rs 25 for butter scotch and chocolate flavour. The 60 ml Milk Lolly priced at Rs. 10 will be available in four different flavours.

The new products will be available at various Milma outlets in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, and Pathanamthitta districts.
