Trivandrum / November 19, 2022

Thiruvananthapuram, Nov. 19: Acknowledging the vital role played by the youth in substance abuse prevention strategies, the delegates of Kerala Youth Forum on ‘drug use prevention’ (GOFORTH), declared their commitment to lead a healthy life and serve as role models for all young people across the world.

The members of the youth forum, GOFORTH, organised by Fourth Wave Foundation (FWF) in collaboration with the Colombo Plan Drug Advisory Programme (DAP), called for the meaningful engagement of youth in formulating policies and strategies to contain the rising menace of drug abuse.

Endorsing the declaration, framed on the basis of deliberations on the side lines of ‘Children Matter’ international forum organised here from November 16 to 18 by FWF in partnership with United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and World Federation Against Drugs (WFAD), the youth urged the governments, civil societies, and communities to create safe places where youth will be heard and allowed to express themselves freely.

Also, it highlighted the need for strengthening positive youth development and imposing restrictions on glorifying the depictions of drugs and alcohol in mass media.
