Thiruvananthapuram, Nov. 24: Dr Verghese Kurien Memorial Hall, built by Trivandrum Regional Cooperative Milk Producers Union (TRCMPU) of Milma at its headquarters here as a tribute to the Father of India’s White Revolution, was opened today.

Inaugurating the facility at Ksheera Bhavan at Pattom, TRCMPU Administrative Committee Convener Shri N Bhasurangan said over the decades Milma has worked hard to fulfil the vision of Dr Kurien for the uplift of farmers and empowering women in rural areas.

Apart from upholding the interests of dairy farmers Milma attaches top priority to supplying high quality milk and dairy products to households across the state, Shri Bhasurangan said at the function held ahead of the National Milk Day, which coincides with the birth anniversary of Dr Kurien on November 26.

TRCMPU Managing Director Shri D S Konda said though dairy products from private brands are available in the market, none of them are manufactured from milk produced in Kerala. ‘Milma is the only organization procuring milk from the farmers in the state', he said.

TRCMPU Administrative Committee Member Shri VS Padmakumar presided over the function.   TRCMPU Assistant Registrar, Audit, Shri Rasool Khan and Manager, Finance, Shri Wilson also spoke.

Following the inaugural ceremony, seminars were held at the hall for students of schools in the city on “Milma-- its history and contemporary relevance” and “The role of students in anti-drug activities”.

Shri P Harilal, Circle Inspector of Police and Shri Vignesh SA, Co-ordinator of Vimukthi, Excise Department led sessions at the seminars.
