India's first Biennale, the Kochi-Muziris Biennale (KMB), began in Kochi on 12/12/12 showcasing the best of global contemporary art and artists. It helped shine a light on Kerala's culture, heritage and history like never before. The KMB has now taken its rightful place as one of the premier art andculture events in South Asia.

3rd meeting of the SAARC Culture Ministers
India hosted the 3rd meeting of the SAARC Culture Ministers in New Delhi on 25 September 2014. Its objective was to promote multilateral cooperation in the field of cultural relations by South Asia in the backdrop of a common heritage linking the eight-member grouping. A highlight of the meeting was adoption of a Delhi Declaration to chart a roadmap for cultural ties in the region for 2014-17.
Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts, Delhi
The Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts, established in 1985, is a premier institution dedicated to research and conservation of Indian art forms and a resource centre for written, oral and visual source materials. It fosters ties with national and international institutions and encourages dialogue on traditional and contemporary arts.

It contains multimedia modules made up of articles, interviews, photographs, performance videos, maps, walkthroughs and bibliographies on various subjects that assimilate the history and culture of the nation.
Since its inception in 1987, Vadehra Art Gallery (VAG) has promoted contemporary Indian art through exhibitions, retrospectives, publications and educational programmes. Over the last 20 years, the gallery has become the locus through which the works of both modern and contemporary artists have reached the public.

A Ramachandran's first show in Kerala at Durbar Hall Gallery, Kochi
Padma Bhushan winner and internationally renowned painter-sculptor A Ramachandran's works were showcased for the first time in his native Kerala at a major exhibition at the Vadehra Art Gallery in Kochi during August 2013.

Internationally renowned Malayalee theatre director Roysten Abel's production 'The Kitchen' was presented as the inaugural work at the International Theatre Festival of Kerala (ITFoK), organised by the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi in January 2014.

P S Jalaja's solo show at Kashi Art Gallery, Kochi
Noted artist PS Jalaja conducted her first-ever solo exhibition - with focus on twin and inter-related contemporary social issues: police atrocities and state interference - at the Kashi Art Gallery in Fort Kochi from January 25-March 30, 2014.
Ente, a gritty, provocative, bi-lingual thriller, is the first mainstream movie produced by acclaimed social activist Dr Sunitha Krishnan. Based on a true story, the 2013 film talks about human trafficking, the flesh trade and the betrayal of trust. It is directed by Rajesh Touchriver and stars Siddique, Lakshmi Menon, Rathna Shekar Reddy, Neena Kurup and award-winner actress Anjali Patil.
Kovalam Literary Festival 2011/2012 (Delhi, Thiruvananthapuram)
The Kovalam Literary Festival was one of the most exciting literary events in the country in 2012, bringing together globally renowned writers as well as some of the most promising talents in modern Indian writing. The festival was held in two legs -- in New Delhi and in Thiruvananthapuram -- and featured writers such as Farrukh Dhondy, Booker nominee Jeet Thayil, David Davidar, Swapan Dasgupta, Timeri N Murari, Biman Nath, Nilanjana Roy, N.S. Madhavan, C.P. Surendran and Benyamin.
